Usage, example, and limits
Usage
- Identify whether the source is plain text or already encoded Base64.
- Choose standard Base64 or Base64URL to match the receiving system.
- After decoding, verify the character encoding and content before reuse.
Limits
- Base64 is encoding, not encryption; anyone with the value can decode it.
- Some systems omit trailing = padding, so identify the source variant.
- This tool handles UTF-8 text rather than arbitrary binary files.
Example
- Input
hello- Output
aGVsbG8=
Standard Base64 may contain +, /, and =, while Base64URL uses URL-safe characters.
